How we select plays
We receive suggestions for plays that we might perform from our membership, directors and occasionally from outside the Club too. But our main source of plays comes via our Reading Panel who actively look for potential plays.
Plays are first read by the 6 members of the reading panel. When the panel meets, which is about every 6 - 8 weeks, they discuss and rate the plays they have read.
When a play has been approved by the Panel, it goes onto our 'Monday Play List'. The Club meets on most Monday evenings and usually we read a play. After a play has been read it is often briefly discussed and then, if the reaction is positive and it could be cast and reasonably produced, moved to our 'Plays for Production' list.
Our directors, of which the Club has 17, can then choose a play from this list to put forward for public performance. A director might have another idea for a play, but this would still need to be seen by the Club on a Monday evening.
The final decision on what plays are performed in a public production is made by the Committee.
